Liberty nursing practicum in Kansas
Kansas is open for practicum in every Liberty online nursing program, and out-of-state online APRN programs don't need Kansas State Board of Nursing approval before they enroll Kansas students. The board reviews the program later, at the point a graduate seeks a Kansas APRN license. Liberty's FNP and PMHNP doctorates carry the 750 NP hours that check now looks for.

What KSBN checks when you apply for a Kansas APRN license
KSBN reviews and approves an out-of-state APRN program when its graduate applies for Kansas licensure, not before. At that point it looks for:
- national accreditation of the program
- a program total of 45 or more credit hours
- no fewer than 3 credit hours apiece in advanced health assessment, advanced pathophysiology and advanced pharmacology
- a minimum of 500 role-specialty clinical hours if the student was admitted before March 1, 2025, rising to 750 for admission after March 1, 2025
Liberty's NP doctorates have 750 NP hours. The 2026-27 catalog gives the FNP DNP and both PMHNP DNPs 1,050 practicum hours: 750 nurse practitioner hours plus 300 DNP practicum hours. The three advanced courses are NURS 711, NURS 712 and NURS 713 at 3 credits each, and the degrees run 69 (FNP), 66 (Post-BSN PMHNP) and 55 (Post-MSN PMHNP) credits. Accreditation is something KSBN checks directly; ask Liberty if you need documentation for your application.

The PMHNP certificate is the track to watch. Its 504 catalog hours are fewer than 750, our research doesn't show how KSBN applies its hour check to a post-graduate certificate, and Liberty's web page lists different courses from the catalog; see PMHNP certificate. If your admission came after March 1, 2025 and you plan to license in Kansas, ask KSBN and Liberty before your first practicum.

Preceptors and supervision in Kansas
KSBN's guidance for APRN clinicals in Kansas, which cites K.A.R. 60-17-104, expects each preceptor to be oriented, to sign an agreement, and to be licensed as a Kansas APRN in the same role the student is preparing for. Anyone clinically supervising APRN students needs a Kansas APRN license. Liberty's own agreement paperwork is covered under preceptor site contract.
Faculty face a lighter rule: a Liberty instructor teaching online needs no Kansas license. AANP rates Kansas as full practice, unlike restricted Oklahoma next door.
Before you accept a Kansas preceptor, confirm the Kansas APRN license and that it matches the role you're training for.
The RN license you practice on
Under K.S.A. 65-1124, KSBN explains, APRN students in Kansas clinical settings practice as students of advanced practice nursing on an RN license that Kansas recognizes, whether multistate or Kansas single-state. Kansas's Nurse Licensure Compact membership took effect on July 1, 2019, and Liberty accepts either a Kansas RN license or a multistate one. The APRN Compact isn't enacted in Kansas. The Census Bureau's 2025 estimates put the Kansas City metro's Kansas portion at about 938,000 people, about 664,000 in Wichita, about 233,000 in Topeka and about 136,000 in Manhattan. Large systems to approach include Stormont Vail Health, The University of Kansas Health System, Wesley Healthcare (HCA, in Wichita) and Ascension Via Christi. I was admitted before March 1, 2025. Which Kansas hour rule applies?
KSBN's document puts students admitted before March 1, 2025 at 500 role-specialty clinical hours. Liberty's current catalog lists 750 NP hours in each NP doctorate, which clears either line. If you started under an earlier degree plan, check that plan's NP-hour split in your records, since older Liberty plans used different totals.
Do the 300 DNP practicum hours count toward Kansas's 750?
You don't need them to. Liberty's NP doctorates carry 750 NP hours on their own. KSBN's document speaks of role-specialty clinical hours, and our research doesn't say whether it would count DNP practicum hours, so treat the 750 NP hours as the figure that matters and log them carefully in InPlace.
Can a psychiatrist precept a Liberty PMHNP student in Kansas?
Liberty's older PMHNP FAQ names a PMHNP or a psychiatrist. KSBN's guidance for Kansas APRN clinicals expects a preceptor licensed as a Kansas APRN for the role you're training in. Will a Liberty faculty member visit my Kansas site?
Kansas doesn't require it, and our research found no Liberty source describing faculty site visits for online tracks. According to KSBN, faculty who visit anyway do so as a visitor or lay person. Your hours and evaluations run through InPlace, and your preceptor reports on your progress through Liberty's own process.
