What shapes the cost of placement help for a Liberty practicum
We quote each Liberty student in writing once we know the track, the location and the timing, and you see that quote and our terms before you commit. Separately, Liberty's own rules say students pay any fees a site or preceptor charges, plus compliance and software costs. Those stay outside our quote.

Why every quote is written for you
A PMHNP student in a city with several psychiatric practices and a Gate course two terms away needs a different search from an FNP student in a rural county whose practicum starts next term. One posted number would be wrong for most readers, so each student gets a quote built for their own situation, naming their track, courses and timing.
Instead, a placement advisor looks at your situation and sends a written quote with our terms. Nothing starts until you have read both and agreed. If the first check shows that Liberty's rules block your plan, for example a state where your track cannot do practicum, we tell you that instead of quoting.
What moves a quote up or down
- Your track and course. An FNP search needs in-person primary care across the lifespan. A PMHNP search needs psychiatric clinicians, and an older Liberty FAQ says half of each practicum's hours must be with a prescriber. MSN searches need a facility willing to sign a site contract.
- How many hours and courses the search covers. Liberty's NP DNPs carry 1,050 practicum hours, the PMHNP certificate 504, each MSN track 300 and the RN-to-BSN 16. One preceptor for one course is a smaller job than a plan for three.
- Where you live. The number of suitable clinicians within a reasonable drive varies a great deal. Some states add steps too, such as Louisiana, where the board must approve each clinical facility before the start date.
- How soon you start. A Gate course that is already open leaves less room than one a term away.
- Telehealth eligibility. PMHNP students can use telehealth for up to 50% of hours, which widens the search. FNP students cannot use telehealth sites.
- The site's paperwork. A site that accepts Liberty's own affiliation agreement is simpler than one that insists on its own contract, which Liberty's older MSN handbook says may delay approval.
The quote also says what happens if a preceptor withdraws partway through, because a new search is part of the work we take on.
Costs Liberty says are yours, outside our quote
Liberty's online DNP pages say that "fees or costs required by a practicum facility and/or preceptor" are the student's responsibility and should be negotiated directly between the student and the site. Liberty adds that it cannot control extra onboarding requirements or fees a facility charges.
That rule holds whoever found the site: the practicum team, a colleague or us. A fee a site or preceptor asks for is between you and them, and it is not part of our quote. Ask about it before your paperwork goes to Liberty. The preceptor fees page lists what to ask.

For MSN students the 2026-27 catalog is direct: "Students are responsible to assume all costs" of the practicum requirements. The older MSN handbook also lists a preceptor stipend among costs a student may meet.
What the written quote covers
Read the quote the way you would read any agreement. It should answer these points in plain terms:
- The track, courses and hours the search is for
- Where we search: in person near you, plus telehealth only if your PMHNP track allows it
- The paperwork help included, such as the preceptor CV and license details, site details and the site contract Liberty asks for
- What happens if a preceptor withdraws, and how a new search runs
- What sits outside the quote, including site or preceptor fees and Liberty's own compliance costs
If a line is unclear, ask before you agree. A placement advisor would rather answer a question now than sort out a misunderstanding halfway through NURS 772.
What your quote pays for
Your quote pays for the work that gets a Liberty file ready: a focused search by people who read Liberty's rules before calling a clinic, candidates checked against your track, and a complete set of preceptor and site details for the practicum team. Liberty alone signs off on the site and preceptor, and its own pages say the assigned term may not match your preference, with state board steps sometimes adding lead time.

Ask every site, in writing, whether it charges a student or preceptor fee before your paperwork reaches Liberty.
The other cost: time
Money is only half of it. Liberty's practicums run in sequence: NURS 771 is a prerequisite for NURS 772, and the PMHNP certificate's two practicums cannot share a semester. A late start in one course can push the rest back a term. In the FNP plan, NURS 838 falls in the final semester alongside the comprehensive exam, so a delay late in the sequence lands right before graduation.

Is a site or preceptor fee included in your quote?
No. Liberty's rule is that any fee a facility or preceptor charges is the student's responsibility and is negotiated directly with the site. Our quote covers our search and paperwork help only. If a site we approach mentions a fee, we pass that on so you can decide before anything goes to Liberty.
Does Liberty charge for its practicum team's help?
No Liberty page we reviewed lists a charge for the practicum team's matching help. The costs Liberty does name are site or preceptor fees, compliance items such as the background check and drug screen, and software fees such as InPlace. Ask the practicum team if you are unsure what applies to your track.
Can I see a quote before deciding anything?
Yes. Send your track, course, state and start term through the form or the chat. A placement advisor replies with any questions, then a written quote and terms. Reading them commits you to nothing, and the search starts only after you agree to the terms.
What happens with the cost if my preceptor drops out?
The written terms set out what happens if a preceptor withdraws and how a new search works, so you know before you agree. When a preceptor drops, we search again. Read that part of the terms closely and ask about anything that is not clear before you sign.
How do you quote the 16-hour RN-to-BSN observation?
NURS 440 asks for two eight-hour community shifts at a location you choose, subject to faculty approval, so the search is short and the quote reflects its size.
