Liberty practicum in Georgia: licenses matter more than approvals
Every Liberty online nursing program can hold practicum in Georgia. Post-licensure programs, APRN programs among them, fall outside what the Georgia Board of Nursing approves or regulates, so Liberty needs no board approval to place you. What Georgia does police is licensing: yours, and that of anyone who teaches or precepts you there.

Georgia, program by program
Liberty's licensure lookup lists Georgia as approved for practicum in all of these. The third column is Liberty's own description of who secures the site, which differs by track and doesn't change in Georgia.

What the Georgia board says, in its own terms
The board's nursing education page makes four points that bear on a Liberty student. First, the board neither approves nor regulates post-licensure programs, so an out-of-state NP, MSN or RN-to-BSN program can place students without its approval. Second, a Georgia resident enrolled in a program based elsewhere who does clinical hours in Georgia needs a Georgia license, or else a multistate license issued by another compact state. Third, faculty and preceptors are held to that same license rule when they teach or work in Georgia, either in person or electronically.
The fourth point concerns APRN programs. The board says a nurse who holds APRN authorization in Georgia must conduct their clinical instruction.

Restricted practice and who precepts
AANP rates Georgia as restricted: physician delegation or supervision is required, and NP Schedule II prescribing is limited. The NPs you approach will work under a physician's delegation, so that physician is part of any practice that takes you.
Put that beside the board's APRN statement and a Georgia-authorized APRN is the clearest fit for FNP hours. Liberty's older PMHNP FAQ also lists psychiatrists as approved preceptors, so if your best lead is a physician, ask the practicum team first. Atlanta first, but not only Atlanta
The 2025 Census estimates put the Atlanta-Sandy Springs-Roswell metro at about 6.5 million people, well ahead of the next three: Augusta-Richmond County (which crosses into South Carolina), Savannah, and Columbus (which crosses into Alabama). Emory Healthcare, Piedmont Healthcare, Grady Health System, Wellstar Health System and Northside Hospital are among the big systems. Community Health students can also consider public health settings such as the Georgia Department of Public Health.
Georgia's Preceptor Tax Incentive Program won't help your pitch. The credit goes to Georgia-licensed preceptors, and only when their student is enrolled in a Georgia medical, dental, NP or PA program, so a Liberty student's preceptor can't claim it. HB 144 revised the program and extended it, and annual registration is required starting in 2026.

Questions Liberty students ask
Can a Georgia physician precept my Liberty FNP or PMHNP hours?
Possibly, but check first. Georgia's board says clinical instruction in APRN programs has to come from a nurse who holds Georgia APRN authorization. Liberty doesn't publish its FNP preceptor list, and an older PMHNP FAQ accepts psychiatrists. Ask Liberty's practicum team before you ask a physician, so you don't lose weeks on a lead that won't clear.
Does my PMHNP telehealth preceptor need a Georgia license?
If they are teaching you while you're in Georgia, the board's rule suggests yes. It says preceptors teaching or working in Georgia, including electronically, must hold a Georgia or multistate license. Liberty caps PMHNP telehealth at 50% of hours. Will my Georgia preceptor get the state's preceptor tax credit?
No. Georgia's Preceptor Tax Incentive Program applies only when the student is enrolled in a Georgia medical, dental, NP or PA program. Liberty is a Virginia university, so its students don't qualify, whatever the preceptor's license or setting. Offer a preceptor clear paperwork and a steady schedule instead.
I live near Augusta. Could I use a site in South Carolina?
Yes, if Liberty approves the site. South Carolina is approved for practicum in every Liberty online program and is also a compact state, so a multistate license from Georgia as your home state works there.
