Connecticut and your Liberty program

Connecticut shows as approved for practicum on Liberty's licensure lookup for each online nursing track. Hour totals below come from the 2026-27 catalog; Liberty approves each site and preceptor that counts toward them.

A new compact state, and Liberty's older wording

Since October 1, 2025, Connecticut has taken part in the Nurse Licensure Compact. The state Department of Public Health says an RN student may now practice in Connecticut with a Connecticut license, and a multistate license from the student's compact home state works as well. Connecticut hasn't enacted the APRN Compact.

Liberty's NP licensure page for Connecticut names only a Connecticut RN license, the wording it uses for states outside the compact. The page may predate the change, but don't assume: check with the practicum team, reachable at APRN.DNPPracticum@liberty.edu, whether a multistate license is enough for your Connecticut site before your Gate course opens. How Connecticut's rules treat programs from other states

Under Regs. Conn. State Agencies 20-90-59, Connecticut deems a program from another state approved when three things hold: its home-state board has approved it, it satisfies Connecticut's curriculum rule for RN programs, and its state sets licensure requirements similar to or higher than Connecticut's. The rule mentions no separate application or notice to the state. Any program placing students for clinical experience in a Connecticut agency is still bound by the state's written-contract rules and ratios, including one preceptor for every two students.

These regulations deal with programs that prepare graduates for licensure. Post-licensure and APRN programs aren't addressed, which leaves open how Connecticut views Liberty's graduate tracks. Liberty's Connecticut page lists no extra state step. If a hospital's education office raises contract or ratio questions, route them to the practicum team.

Full practice, after a collaboration period

Connecticut is full practice in AANP's ratings, but an NP gets there only after collaborating with a physician for 2,000 hours across at least three years. Some newer NPs you contact may not have finished that period yet, which limits their own practice and says nothing about whether Liberty will accept them. Liberty doesn't publish FNP preceptor credentials, and its older PMHNP guidance named PMHNPs and psychiatrists. Check current rules on preceptor requirements.

From Hartford to Stamford

Hartford HealthCare, UConn Health, Yale New Haven Health and Trinity Health Of New England are major Connecticut systems. Northwell Health, based in New York, runs former Nuvance Health hospitals in western Connecticut such as Danbury Hospital. None of this implies a Liberty agreement; they're examples of where Connecticut students search. Our research lists no Connecticut preceptor incentive.

Census estimates put about 1.17 million people in the Hartford metro, about 978,000 in Bridgeport-Stamford-Danbury, and roughly 579,000 and 463,000 in New Haven and Waterbury-Shelton. Liberty's lookup goes by the state where the practicum happens, so a Northwell hospital in Danbury is a Connecticut site, while the same system's locations in New York can't host NP tracks. Massachusetts to the north is approved but needs its own RN license.
