Liberty nursing practicum in Alabama

Which Liberty programs can use Alabama

All of them. The difference is in the extra step Liberty's Alabama pages name, which our research found only for the NP programs.

Rule 610-X-3-.09, stated exactly

Alabama Administrative Code rule 610-X-3-.09 applies to out-of-state nursing programs at the prelicensure or advanced practice level. Such a program must send the Alabama Board of Nursing a letter of intent and approval documents 15 or more days before its students begin clinical learning experiences in Alabama. The submission lists:

• each student, by name and license number
• the clinical supervisor, by name and license number
• the facility where the rotation takes place
• a statement from that facility's Director of Nursing or CNO

An annual out-of-state program fee is due from the program as well. The fee is charged per program or institution, runs for one calendar year and can't be refunded. Until the board has given its approval and the fee is paid, it says, no student may attend clinicals in Alabama. Both are the program's filings, not yours, but they control your start date, so confirm with Liberty's practicum team that everything is in place for your track and term. Reduced practice and Alabama preceptors

AANP classes Alabama as reduced. For at least one element of practice, a nurse practitioner there needs a regulated collaborative agreement with a physician, and the Board of Medical Examiners and the Board of Nursing regulate NP practice jointly. The NPs you approach will each have a collaborating physician in the picture, so expect that physician's view to matter when you ask an NP to take you on.

Liberty decides who qualifies. Its FNP credential rules aren't public, so bring any lead to the practicum team early; the preceptor requirements page lists what is known.

Where Alabama students look

Birmingham is the largest metro. The 2025 Census estimates put it at about 1.2 million people, with Huntsville, Mobile and Montgomery next in size. The large systems are Baptist Health in Montgomery, USA Health and Infirmary Health in Mobile, Huntsville Hospital Health System, and UAB Medicine. Community Health students can also look at public health settings such as the Alabama Department of Public Health.

The Alabama Preceptor Tax Incentive Program, a state income tax credit for uncompensated preceptors in medically underserved rural areas, won't apply. The credit is limited to rotations in programs that are physically located in Alabama, so a Liberty student's preceptor can't claim it.

License, and why Alabama students choose us

Alabama put the Nurse Licensure Compact into effect on January 1, 2020. Under the board's FAQ, post-licensure students, MSN and DNP students among them, must hold a valid, unencumbered RN license, either from Alabama or as a multistate license issued by a party state. Alabama's notice depends on the preceptor's license number and the facility details, so those are the first things a placement advisor collects once an Alabama preceptor says yes.
