The standards a Liberty placement service should meet, and how we meet them
The best placement help for a Liberty student knows Liberty's rules cold, brings leads that fit your track, prepares paperwork your Gate course can use and keeps searching if a preceptor withdraws. Below are those standards and how we meet each one, with every answer in writing.

Start with what Liberty already provides
For the NP tracks, Liberty's practicum team is part of your program. Liberty calls the process a collaborative partnership, says its team aims to match each student with a preceptor and site, and encourages students to find leads of their own. No Liberty page we found lists a separate charge for that help. MSN students choose their own facility and secure a preceptor site contract, and the older MSN handbook says the program works with students to find preceptors.
Placement help adds to that work. Students bring it in when the team hasn't matched them yet, their own leads have run dry or they want the paperwork pulled together by someone who knows Liberty's process. For a side-by-side view of the three routes, see practicum team vs self-placement.
It knows Liberty without looking things up
A placement advisor here answers these on the first call, because every lead we send has to pass Liberty's review and the answers shape the whole search.
- What degree is Liberty's FNP? (A DNP. Liberty has no MSN-level NP track.)
- Where can't Liberty NP students do practicum? (California, New York, Washington, DC and the U.S. territories.)
- Can FNP students use telehealth? (No. PMHNP students can, for up to 50% of their hours.)
- Who can precept a PMHNP student? (An older Liberty FAQ lists PMHNPs and psychiatrists, with half the hours under a prescriber.)
- What is a Gate course? (A zero-credit Liberty course where practicum requirements are submitted, such as

It works inside Liberty's process
Liberty's process decides what any placement help can offer, and the best help is built around it. Each point below is a standard we hold ourselves to.
- Approval stays with Liberty. Liberty approves sites and preceptors, and our work is to put a lead in front of the practicum team that already fits its rules.
- Timing is planned around Liberty's clock. Liberty's review, the site's contract process and, in states such as Alabama, a board notice each run on their own schedule, so we start early and tell you where each one stands.
- The practicum team stays in the loop. Every lead we develop is shared with the team, so nobody contacts the same clinician twice.
- Leads fit your track and state: in-person sites for FNP hours, telehealth only inside the PMHNP 50% limit, and NP sites only in states Liberty approves.
- Paperwork arrives Gate-ready: the preceptor's CV and license details and the site information, in the shape the practicum team asks for.
- Every claim about Liberty's rules can be checked against Liberty's own published pages, with the source named.
It is clear about what a fee covers
Liberty's rule is plain: fees or costs required by a practicum facility or preceptor are your responsibility, to be negotiated directly between you and the site, and Liberty can't control them. The 2022-23 MSN handbook also lists a preceptor stipend among costs a student may face. A service's fee and a site's fee are therefore separate questions, and you should know the answer to both.

- Could the site or preceptor still charge something on top, and will you know before you commit?
- When is payment due, and what happens to it if no suitable preceptor is found?
- What happens if a preceptor withdraws partway through the term?

It prepares the file and stays for replacements
Finding a name is only half the job. Strong placement help collects what Liberty's process needs: the preceptor's CV and license details, site information and, for MSN students, a facility willing to sign Liberty's affiliation agreement or the Attestation of Agreement letter. It knows which states need a board notice or facility approval before clinicals, and it screens each lead for state, license, setting and preceptor type before passing it on, because an unchecked lead costs you weeks when Liberty turns it down.
Then comes the part after the match. A preceptor can withdraw at any point, so the service should search again on terms you can read in advance. It should also tell you what personal information it keeps and who sees it. A search runs on your track, state, license and dates, and those details belong only with the people working your placement.

Does Liberty allow students to use a placement service?
No Liberty page we reviewed addresses outside placement services either way. Liberty's program pages do encourage students to take an active role in finding placements. Whoever finds the lead, the site and preceptor go through Liberty's placement process and approval, so a service changes where leads come from, not how they are judged. Ask the practicum team if you want certainty.
Should I tell the practicum team I'm working with a service?
Yes. Liberty describes placement as a partnership, and sharing leads avoids two people contacting the same clinic. It also lets the team flag a lead that won't work for your track before anyone spends time on it. See how Liberty's practicum team works.
How does placement help shorten the road to approval?
Liberty reviews on its own schedule, so the time good help saves comes before the review: leads that already fit Liberty's rules and a packet with nothing missing, which removes avoidable back-and-forth. Board steps, such as those on state board notices, follow their own timing whoever found the site.
What should a written agreement with a placement service include?
The track and state you are being searched for, whether the search is in person or telehealth, what the fee covers and what it doesn't, what happens if a preceptor withdraws, what happens if nothing suitable is found and how your information is stored. Anything promised on a call should appear there too.
Who pays if a preceptor asks for a stipend?
Under Liberty's rule, fees a facility or preceptor requires are the student's responsibility and are negotiated directly with the site. If you use a service, ask whether any such amount is included in its fee or would be separate, and get that answer before you sign anything.
